Hikaru is, at first glance, an average young man. He works a part time job at a convenience store to fund both school and his hobby, Medabots, something he's passionate enough about to skip out on said job to indulge in. This passion has made him something of a big brother figure to the local kids who also love medabots, often coming to him for Legal Adult Wisdom or just a safe place to hang out during the day. Not for robattling, though--despite his technical knowledge this guy couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag as far as they're concerned.

What they don't know won't hurt them.

By night Hikaru dons the mask of Phantom Retort, a mysterious and gentlemanly thief who's only got one thing on his mind: Rare Medals. The scientific community acknowledges a great power residing in these medals, but what a masked burglar would want with them is anyone's guess. And he does so love to keep people guessing, adding flourishes of acrobatics and smoke bombs along with cryptic farewells as he exits the scene of a crime. The papers are full of stories of the thief's fantastic exploits and mad guessing as to his identity and motives, while the man behind the mask is content enough to let normal people wonder and be amazed with the police scrambling about. (Please wonder and be amazed? He's so cool, he can totally get why you'd wonder and be amazed.)

There's also the secret identity of his secret identity. With his crimson cape billowing in the cosmic breeze, he has heroically travelled across stars too numerous to count to arrive on this majestic planet you call Earth. He is Space Medafighter X!

He is...a way to fight in the official robattle rankings without compromising his everyman persona or risking arrest for being a wanted criminal. That's all, really. But this mysterious figure with an incredibly powerful custom medabot is known as the number one medafighter in Japan, and is rumored to even be the legendary figure from a catastrophic event eight years ago, Hikaru Agata.

Wait, Hikaru? Like the convenience store guy? No no, that has to be a different Hikaru.

ABILITIES/EQUIPMENT

Enhanced Speed/Dexterity - While a normal human being at the end of the day, Hikaru has rigorously trained his body in order to jump into potentially dangerous situations beside his medabot. Most of this training has centered around being agile and hard to hit, the culmination of this being a technique called "Shadow Sword." This technique gives the user a momentary burst of speed rivalling a bullet train, allowing for either a quick interrupting strike or dodge.

Stealth - Hikaru is practiced in the art of staying hidden. Despite being clumsy, he still manages to regularly sneak in and out of areas with high security unhindered.

Mechanical Knowledge - Being a pro medafighter, Hikaru is well versed in the maintenance and customization of these tiny robots. This extends to many domestic handyman skills, along with other more complicated robotics to a certain extent.

Thieving Kit - Phantom Retort's usual bag of tricks tends to include: smoke bombs, a grappling hook, a collapsible hang glider, and custom "R" medals used as shuriken. (Also a hot air balloon, but like. You can't fit that in an actual bag, so.)

ARCBEETLE

Arcbeetle is Hikaru's personal medabot, a brand new custom body built for the repaired medal of his Metabee that no longer remembers who he was. A bot of few words, he packs immense speed and firepower, though his most devastating attack—"The Prominence"—takes some time to charge.

Prominence - Head - Able to charge energy between the "horns" on his head and chest while still, culminating in a powerful beam attack.

Ignition - Right Arm - Precision-shot rifle.

Explode - Left Arm - Rapid-fire Gatling gun.

Fireworks - Legs - High speed, works best on flat terrain.

Medaforce - Due to the nature of Arc's medal, he can harness a mysterious energy to let loose an especially powerful beam attack. This takes a lot out of him, however, so he's left vulnerable for a short time afterwards and needs a much, much longer time to use the attack again.

Summary: Your average guy working as a convenience store clerk to fund both school and his hobby, Medabots. Though the local kids see him as a mature big brother figure, he can be pretty childish himself with little provocation.

Unbeknownst to all, however, Hikaru moonlights as the dastardly Phantom Retort, a masked thief who targets Rare Medals. Known to even fewer, Hikaru takes on a third identity as Space Medafighter X, the top ranked robattler in all of Japan who claims to be an alien travelling in search of honorable battle.

Good thing there's absolutely no way anyone could link these three figures together.
